For the newbies here, could someone post the story about how John's toes >came to be missing? I don't remember enough to post.>As I underrstand it and I could be wrong. Gee I hate when that happens!!!!!! John got into an argument with his Dad about the way he was cutting the lawn. He then continued cutting it barefooted and ran the lawnmower over his right foot amputating one toe and most of another on the right side of his right foot. He was angry at his father for some time over that but he was the one pushing the lawnmower!!!!!!!! It was quite a trauma for a young kid. Can you imagine looking down on all that blood and gore!!!!!!!!!! EWWWWW. I think I got this right. Hollie Darlin', How was that foot doing? LOL Sue
You are correct sir my mother was one of his best friends in HS at the time and has a great pick with her next to him and his foot is all bandaged up. It was his right big toe and a very small nick on the one next to it.
I heard him tell the story personally as he was a very humble and just a good person. He was very humbled by the event.
Yes he was mowing barefoot minus the arguement part. He was however told by his dad not to mow barefoot. LOL

Talk about newbies here! I am definitely a newbie. Fourteen years later and only now I wake up and smell the roses - just because of John Denver. I have searched and searched for the longest time and I think I have found the photo you are all talking about. He is sitting on the ground on some sort of a thin cushion while holding his 12 string guitar in his hands. He is wearing shorts and it looks like there is a hole in them. There is a ' necklace' round his neck and he is sitting cross-legged with his right leg tucked in under his left. I can see his toes on his right foot, but they just look mangled, not altogether gone. The site that I have found the photo on is John Denver - One World (for all of us) [1992]
I really hope that someone will read this post and answer me!
